Child-Free Weekend

Bless my mother’s heart for offering to babysit my son this weekend! I was sitting on my sister’s sofa, shaking, eyes closing as I spoke to her and I was ready to cry, out of shear exhaustion. She asked me what was wrong, and I told her, Thursday night, Nathaniel coughed ALL NIGHT long! If I got 2 hours of sleep that night, that was a lot! My husband also didn’t sleep a wink. He went to work in the morning on no sleep. We were just done. Our bodies were just calling out for Bed! My mom told me to leave my son with her for the weekend, and for Mike & I to sleep and get the rest we need. I hesitated at first, because my son was coughing all night. But that morning he barely coughed and he was having so much fun with his cousins. She told me not to worry, that she would take great care of him, which is true. She could nurse anyone back to great health! So I said yes, he can stay. My son jumped up and down excitedly, while my niece and nephew did a little happy dance around him. That helped me feel better for sure.

After running some errands with my sister, I said bye to my lil’ guy and told him daddy & I would pick him up on Sunday. I got home close to 8 pm and I was in bed by 8:30, next to my snoring husband. Oooh, my bed felt heavenly. This was it…I was going to sleep the best sleep of my life! At least that’s what I thought would happen. Nope. As exhausted as I was, as shaky as I felt, I could not fall asleep. An hour later, I drank a melatonin pill and eventually passed out! Hubby and I woke up around 10 but got out of bed at noon. It was great! I enjoy being able to lounge around, not worrying about having to get breakfast ready for my son, while putting on cartoons and figuring out what to do on a super cold day.

After hubby and I ate brunch, we lounge around a bit more, then decided to out on a date :). We went to the movies, to see Unbroken. Wonderful movie! Really made me wonder what I’ve been doing with my life. It made me feel so mediocre! This man was strong, and accomplished. I have so much respect for him. So after pondering my life for a bit once the movie was done, we went and had dinner at Chili’s. It was great to sit and relax, just the two of us and have conversation without the interruptions on “daddy! Mommy! Look at this!”

After eating, we ran some errands, bugged each other in the car, laughed a lot and now we’re home, lounging again. I’m so grateful to have this time alone with my husband. I’ve missed him :). No matter how busy we get, we must always find time to spend with each other. Without that personal time, mommies and daddies might go mad! So please, have a date night at least once a month! It’s highly recommend 🙂
